The renovation of Pálffy Palace on Ventúrska Street in Bratislava’s historic city centre represents a sensitive restoration of a significant heritage building, traditionally associated with the urban legend of a performance by the young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

The architectural concept is based on removing inappropriate alterations and additions accumulated over previous decades. The aim was to restore the palace’s original spatial and architectural qualities while introducing a contemporary, functionally flexible environment.

The new interventions are defined by a minimalist approach and a deliberate contrast between the historic fabric and contemporary elements. Large black window reveals at ground level introduce subtle accents to the historic façade, while transparent cylindrical enclosures inserted into the interior create spaces for informal meetings without compromising the openness of the original layout.

The restored courtyard, historic staircases, and preserved architectural details establish a natural dialogue with the contemporary interventions. The result is a contemporary reinterpretation of a historic palace, where new architectural layers respect the building’s identity without attempting to imitate its original character.
